Amritsar, June- 04, 2015:-- The last year’s bloody clash at the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar, the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Punjab police are leaving no stone unturned to have tight security arrangements in place for the 31st anniversary of Operation Bluestar here on June 6.
The Punjab authorities are concerned about the law and order situation after a bandh was called in Amritsar by radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa.
Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee contemplating to put a restriction on carrying sharp-edged weapons other than ‘kirpan’ inside the Golden Temple Complex on the occasion.
Around 12,000 police personnel from Amritsar police commissionerate and 1,000 more personnel from other districts have been deployed to maintain the law and order. The personnel have been deployed near the Hall Gate and the Golden Temple.
The SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar has appealed all the Sikh organisations to peacefully observe the event and pay their tributes to the “martyrs”.
Avtar Singh Makkar said it was a solemn occasion and therefore calm should be maintained while observing it. “Keeping in view last year’s unfortunate incident as well as the ‘maryada’ of the holy shrine, tight security arrangements will be made and adequate number of task force members will be deployed to keep a close watch during the programme,” he added.
